Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez leave their innocent images behind in Spring Breakers trailer

They're the Hollywood starlets who look like butter wouldn't melt and have a series of family friendly Disney movies under their belts.
So fans might be shocked to see Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens drinking hard liquor, smoking marijuana and using guns to rob a convenience store in the trailer for their new film.
Spring Breakers, directed by edgy film maker Harmony Korine, tells the tale of four college students who rob a store to pay for their holiday to Florida.

Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine also star in the rated-R flick, as does James Franco, who appears on screen as a drug dealer called Alien.
With his corn rows and gold teeth, he looks every inch the scoundrel, which the trailer hints that he truly is.

He meets the girls after they appear in court on drug charges, and persuades them to join his murky world of drug and gun running.

The trailer shows the girls embarking upon a rollercoaster adventure, and ending up in some dangerous scenarios.
The soundtrack was produced by Skrillex and Cliff Martinez, who was responsible for the score of last year's acclaimed movie, Drive.
Vanessa Hudgens explained that it was an urge to develop her acting skills that made her sign up for the gritty part of Candy, going as far as bleaching her natural brunette locks.
She said: 'Evolution. As an actor, you've got to grow. If you're not growing, you're dying, in a sense.

'So it was time to shed a new skin and step into something different, a different person's shoes, a different world. I've never done anything like this before, and it was so freeing.
'Every girl at some point would like to go on spring break and have that opportunity to let loose. It's just really interesting doing it through a character that has a lot of depth.'
Selena Gomez echoed the sentiment, saying: 'Disney was my life, and in a way, it's all I knew, so once that ended, I definitely think it was good for me to go to an extreme like this.
'That's what was so liberating about it. I felt so safe with Harmony, and I felt so safe with the girls. I was really able to push myself to places even I didn't know I could go. It was great.'

The film's director Harmony Korine is best known for his controversial art house films Kids, Gummo and Trash Humpers.
He said of his latest offering: 'When I wrote the script, I started thinking about girls in bikinis with guns, wearing ski masks.
'I was like, 'Where would you see that?' And the idea of spring break came to me. I just started imagining girls on spring break robbing places.'
Spring Breakers is released in the UK on April 5th 2013
