Well the world has been waiting and now their expectations have been met with the release of the new Samsung Galaxy S4!  This new device offers features never seen before and we need to look at the differences from the S3 version.

First let’s look at the specs.

A 5 inch full sized HD super AMOLED screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels with 441 pixels per inch.

A quad core Qualcomm processor at 1.9GHz clock speed.  The international version has the 8 core Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor at 1.6 GHz clock speed.

The handset features 2GB of RAM.

Dimensions are 136.6 mm by 69.8mm x 7.9mm thick and weighs about 103g.

The OS is the Android 4.2.2

A rear facing 13 megapixel camera and auto focus BIS, front facing 2 megapixel camera with HD at 1080p, 30 FPS and the Flash and Zero Shutter Lag.

A 2.5G, 3G, 4G LTE for connectivity and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WiFi, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, MHL 2.0, IR LED.  In addition there’s Accelerometer, RGB light, Geomagnetic, Proximity, Gyro, Barometer, Temp and humidity and Gesture sensors.

It can store 16GB, 32GB, 64B interior and a microSD card slot that will store up to 65GBs.

Video has Codec MPEG4, H.264, H.263, DivX, DivX3.11, VC-1, VP8, WMV7 and 8, HEVC, Sorenson Spark.

Audio comes in with Codec MP3, AAC/ACC+/eAAC+, WMA FLAC, OGG, AC-3, apt X.

The batter has 2,600 m4h.

Eye tracking called Smart Pause, Smart Scroll, Air View, Air gesture and lots more.  These features are what the news media is hot about.  You can literally control the screen on the S4 by just looking at it or by gesturing.  It’s like something out of Star Trek.  No longer do you have to touch the screen to operate it.  A mere gesture can scroll or activate features.  Of course it has voice control too. Just say it and it will be.  S Voice is what it’s called and it will come in handy for people whose hands are busy.  This sure beats the TouchWiz of the S3.

The Optical Reader is another feature to reckon with.  It will act as a translation device as you’re using text message and other functions.

The Samsung WatchON is amazing.  It lets you interface with your home’s other devices like DVD players and so on. You can use your S4 to start, program and operate in general these devices for your convenience.

The Samsung Exynos 4/4412 with the quad core 1400 MHz ARM Cortex -A9 and a graphics processor ARM Mali-400/MP4.  It’s system memory 1023 MB Ram and stores 32 GB of space expandable to 64 GB.

A 4.8 inch screen, a wee bit smaller than the S4 with 720 x 1280p and Super AMOLED.

The batter capacity is 2100 mAh with 22.50 hours talk time and 34 days stand by time.

It also features voice navigation, turn by turn navigation and points of interest POI.

Bluetooth 4.0 is the connectivity feature with 802.11 a/b/g/n/n 5GHz.

There’s lots more to each phone but the key point is that the S4 is a definite step up a notch from the S3.  It appears that samsung went to the lab again on this one to notch things up a bit and introduce features that were rumored but have come to pass.  S3 users will find that the new features are a bit magical but not too unfamiliar.  The learning curve isn’t that steep and once practiced it will all become second nature quickly.

It’s all about hands free operation.  The less time you have your fingers on the phone the more attention you can have on important things like crossing the street and not getting run over by a car.  Or if in a car you can position your S4 and operate it at a glance and distance using voice with S3 has but also your eyes which the S3 doesn’t.  For handicapped persons this feature is going to be a major bonus.  At the office or outdoors working you can operate the S4 this way and save time and money.

The memory storage is healthy for both phones given today’s technology and the processing power is close but the S4 has the lead.  This is important to facilitate the apps and features of the phone to work seamlessly even under challenging conditions.  It’s the Air Gesture feature that will make operators look like they’re doing magic and keep the screen clean too.

Add to all that the services from Google like Google Maps, Gmail, Latitude, Play Store, Google Plus, Talk, and the rest and you’re off to a good start.

As for connectivity it’s about the same so the reliability is still there for the S4 as with the S3.

Battery power has ramped up a bit from 2100 mAH on the S3 to 2600 mAh on the S4.  There’s no telling as yet the full specs of the S4′s battery but speculation is that it’s going to be impressive.  It all depends on if Samsung’s bite is worth its hype.

The S4 also uses the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 feturing Native Damage Resistance.  It protects the phone better and with the use of the voice, eye, and gesture technology in the new S4 the screen damage should be reduced considerably.

So in conclusion, since the S4 is still up in the air its full specifications aren’t fine tuned.  We can only go by what we know but it’s apparent from what we know it’s several notches up over the S3 but only field testing will see if it can hold up to the hype.  It looks impressive, sounds impressive and when it hits the stores in late April we’ll all know.
