Top 10 Cleaning Tips

Cleaning is never fun but there are plenty of ways to make the job easier. Here are our top ten cleaning tips to help you:
1) Cleaning wine spills
There’s nothing worse than spilling a glass of red wine on your new carpet. The best way to deal with these spillages is to douse with soda water, dabbing it out gradually with a paper towel until the stains are gone.
2) Getting rid of limescale
Cleaning limescale off taps or shower heads can be a pain. Vinegar is particularly good for removing limescale, so soak your shower head in hot vinegar and brush it with an old toothbrush. Once rinsed, you’ll be left with a showerhead that looks as good as new. When soaking it, make sure you use a big heavy bowl, as the showerhead could tip the bowl and leave you with lots more cleaning to do.
3) Microfiber cloths
Forget disposable paper towels or blue cloths as they have limited reusability. Microfiber cloths are by far the best cleaning tool you can have in your home. Not only do they clean all surfaces with ease, they can be washed and reused hundreds of times without disintegrating or shedding.
4) Removing sweat stains from white clothes
Sweat stains can prove extremely difficult to remove. The best way to get these stains out of light clothing is to use a solution of baking soda and lemon, putting it in with your wash. For the best results, dry in the sun, as this makes your whites even whiter.
5) Steam clean your microwave
Cleaning the inside of your microwave can be a messy and painful job, especially when there are tough stains to remove. The best way to clean it is to steam it. Begin by heating water with lemon in a microwave-safe bowl until it boils. Keep the door closed for roughly 20 minutes and then wipe away all the grime.
6) Getting rid of sticker marks
If you have children you will no doubt find hidden stickers around the house – while it may seem like a horrible task to get rid of them, rubbing them with eucalyptus can help: it should remove the gummy residue left behind after a sticker’s been torn off.
7) Coca-Cola as cleaner
Coca-Cola is a great cleaner, whether you want to polish chrome or get rid of limescale in your toilet.
8) Get your silver looking as good as new
Getting your silver cutlery looking its best can be a time-consuming ordeal. With this quick technique it need not be: simply line a bowl with foil and fill with one cup of soda crystals, followed by water. Leave the cutlery to soak for a couple of minutes and scrub clean.
9) DIY carpet cleaning
Instead of regularly paying for carpet cleaning services, invest in a carpet cleaner that can do the job just as well for a fraction of the price.
10) Unblocking drains
Instead of using harmful chemicals to unblock your drains, simply dump a cup of baking soda, vinegar and some hot water down there. This should get rid of any blockages within an hour.
