Back in year 2008, the German manufacturer of luxury writing instruments and watches, Montblanc launched the Nicolas Rieussec chronographs, paying tribute to the ingenious French watchmaker Nicolas Mathieu Rieussec who truly wrote history back in 1822 with its trailblazing invention of the chronograph. Montblanc enriched the world of horology with the introduction of these chronographs which notably have rotating discs rather than chronograph’s hands. Now, the brand continues to explore and expand its eclectic collection of Nicolas Rieussec chronographs, with the release of new and revolutionary Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours, a chronograph for day and night which impressively relies on 2 discs, one atop the other, to show not only the 12 hours, but to also indicate whether each of the dozen is a night-time hour or daytime. Notably, this made in Le Locle timepiece will be one of the fine watches to be unveiled at the SIHH 2013 in Geneve starting January 21st, along with theRotende de Cartier 42mm Panther with Granulation watch which features panther motif in gold granulation. Also, we have earlier seen the 19-piece limited-edition Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec horological timewriter table clockwhich was developed in collaboration with Munich-based German clock maker Erwin Sattler, and was unveiled at SIHH 2011.

Notably, the 43mm Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours boasts of hour numerals that change colors depending on the time of day or night. The numerals on the hours disc are hollow, showing another disc underneath. And, during night time hours, the numerals are pale blue, and turn black during the day. This interesting function assigns each hour to the day or night, and makes it easier to properly set the date display, so that the date correctly changes at midnight rather than mistakenly at midday.

And, this unusual time display is made possible by the manufacture Calibre MB R220 automatic movement, which is visible through the caseback, and boasts an elaborate patented day/night mechanism which is particularly self-explanatory twice a day.

The $11,000 timepiece is available 18 ct red gold version with finely terraced horns, stainless steel, and 28-piece limited edition 950 platinum versions.
