Cartier to unveil Rotonde de Cartier: Panther with Granulation at SIHH 2013
The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) and Basel World are two of the most important events for haute horologists. SIHH 2013 will take place from the 21st to the 25th of January which means that we have an exciting preview of Cartier’s Rotonde de Cartier: Panther with Granulation. This year Cartierhas managed to combine their rich heritage with a 5000-year-old artisanal technique and an inordinate amount of luxury.
This one of a kind 42 mm watch showcases an art that dates back to ancient Egypt, which was then successively perfected by the Italians, prior to the rise of the Roman Empire. Cartier has of course adapted this style in their own unique way to suit modern tastes and has thus created one of the most stunning pieces in their Cartier d’Art line. The panther has been created using tiny gold balls; each 22k gold ball is hand applied one at a time to create the picture. The balls are cut from a string, heated and then fused to the watch base to provide a multidimensional textural masterpiece.
The case is made entirely of 18k yellow gold and set with 306 brilliant cut diamonds totaling 3.63 carats, the crown has been set with a diamond and is made of beaded 18k yellow gold. A semi matte black alligator skin strap using a double adjustable folding clasp compliments the striking dial.
